Residential Electrician Colorado Springs

Electrical work is daunting. Everybody knows doing DIY electrics can be dangerous, so most people put it off. But hiring a contractor is more expensive so it’s a tough choice! Considering hiring a residential electrician Colorado Springs? Then read on.

DIY Electric Work Advantages

While we firmly believe that you should hire an expert residential electrician Colorado Springs, we recognize that DIY electric work does have advantages.

  1. Expert contractors available as soon as possible are thin on the ground. If you want to start work straight away, you can do so by doing the work yourself. There will be a learning curve where you figure out what to do, but at least you can start when you like.
  2. Safe, expert electrical work costs money. When you hire an electrician, you aren’t just paying for their time and materials. You’re paying for their expertise, safety training, and insurance. It’s cheaper to go it alone.
  3. Electrical work is safe, provided that you take the proper precautions. Turn off the circuit breaker and you won’t get shocked.
  4. Electrical work is clean. Working with wiring, you learn to keep everything neat. You aren’t painting, drilling or knocking things down. So you won’t be making a mess!
  5. You can follow a guide book. No matter what work you want to do, there will be a guide you can follow. It’s better to follow official guides or those from experts rather than anything you find online, though.

DIY work is a little easier than you might imagine, too. If you have a proper guide to follow, and you understand straightforward logic, you’ll be fine.

DIY Electric Work Disadvantages

But that doesn’t mean DIY is the best way to go. There are actually several reasons why you should avoid working on electrics yourself. These relate both to the job itself, and the safety of your family.

One big drawback is the time that DIY work takes. All projects take time, even ones that are simple. But besides that, you also have to learn how to do what you’re doing. Sometimes this will require a steep learning curve. But for an expert residential electrician, these jobs are second nature.

But the most important point is that DIY electric work is dangerous in a way that painting and decorating isn’t. When you’re working with electrics, you’re working with power. If you don’t know what you’re doing, you could easily get shocked. And that doesn’t just mean a light tingle—it could mean serious injury or worse.

You can avoid this by turning the circuit breaker off. But this isn’t the main safety concern. The real danger comes from your completed work. If you’ve fudged something, cut corners, or just didn’t know what you were doing… You could cause an electrical fire down the line.

There’s a reason why residential electricians have to go through extensive safety training, and acquire proper insurance and credentials, before starting work. If they didn’t, they would put themselves and your family at risk.

And of course, not everybody is comfortable doing DIY. So even if you can, that doesn’t mean you should.

Why Hire a Residential Electrician Colorado Springs?

Residential electricians will do anything that’s to do with electrical wiring in your home. That includes:

  • General electrics. If you need your electrical panel upgrading, or if you need to run wiring to a new room, an electrician will do it for you.
  • Rewiring. Rewiring is a complex job. If your house is getting old, your wiring is getting old too. Frayed wires caught on nails or chewed by vermin can pose a fire risk. An electrician can replace some or all of your old wiring for you.
  • Lighting. Lighting makes a room. If you’re looking to upgrade or change the lighting in your room, an electrician can help you plan the change and see it through.
  • Home theater. Home theaters are easy to set up, but difficult to get exactly right. They need a combination of wiring, lighting and sound. An electrician can help you get everything right first time.
  • Security. Security isn’t something you should cut corners on. An electrician can help set up cameras, alarms and more to keep your family safe.

So, basic jobs you can consider doing yourself. But for everything else, you should hire a professional—both for their expertise and speed.

Setting up a home theater might be fine, although an electrician can wire it for you so that all the wires are hidden! But rewiring your whole home isn’t a good idea, because if you get it wrong, it’s a major risk.

LED Lighting Colorado Springs

Updating the lighting in your home or business isn’t entry level DIY. In fact, anything to do with electrics can be dangerous! That’s why people across the Colorado Springs area come to us for help. So, want to learn more about installing LED lighting Colorado Springs? Then read on!

What Is LED Lighting Colorado Springs?

LED stands for light emitting diode. A diode is an electrical component that has two terminals, but which only conducts electricity in one direction. When you run an electrical current through it, a diode will emit a light that’s very bright for the size of the bulb. Diodes are used in all sorts of technology, like radios, TVs, computers and more.

As we said, they run on an electrical current. When the current is directed to the bulb on the end of the diode, the electrons inside get ‘excited’ and release photons (light). LEDs can produce a variety of different colours depending on the energy gap in the semiconductor of the diode.

LEDs have been one of the cheapests way of producing light for a long time. However, they have a tendency to produce a harsh kind of light (not ideal for around the home). But lately, as manufacturers have experimented with their products, they’ve managed to produce larger LED lights that have a slightly softer light that’s much nicer to look at.

Where Can You Use LED Lighting Colorado Springs?

You can install LED lighting anywhere that you like in your home. However, most projects where we install LED lighting are in the kitchen and in home cinemas.

LED lighting is perfect for kitchens. It’s cheap and bright, so it’s perfect for lighting up surfaces where you need to chop and prepare food. Not only that, but LED strip lights sit under shelves and cabinets to provide downlight. Hey presto, you have cheap mood lighting!

It’s also great for home cinemas, again for downlighting. Downlighting is fantastic for home cinemas because it’s unobtrusive, and doesn’t shine at any screen you might be watching. It sets the mood far better than regular lighting can.

Of course, you can also have LED lighting anywhere in your home. You could have it installed:

  1. On the outside of your home to provide accent lighting
  2. In the hallway to light your way
  3. Behind picture frames, anywhere in the home, to highlight your artwork or photographs

It’s versatile, cheap, and easy to install. What’s not to love?

Benefits of LED Lighting Colorado Springs

LED lighting, when used right, can knock regular lighting out of the park. There are several reasons why.

  1. LED lighting is so cheap that you’ll wonder why you never used it before. LEDs can be manufactured for cents, and are a big export from overseas. Because they’re shipped in bulk, they hardly cost a thing.
  2. It can be installed anywhere around the home, and easily too. It can either integrate with your existing electrical system, or run off batteries (e.g. cheap LED strip lighting).
  3. LED lighting can come in different colors. It’s therefore the easiest way to create mood lighting in your home.
  4. LEDs aren’t just cheap to buy. They’re cheap to run, too. They use hardly any electricity. If you replaced all of your lights with LEDs, you would be saving yourself money.

One drawback is that you can’t use regular bulbs anymore. If you have regular lighting, you can head to almost any big store and pick up whatever bulb you need. With LED lighting, you can’t necessarily do that, because LED bulbs are often harder to find.

Another is that cheap LEDs can only create a harsh light. It won’t be a soft light like you’ll get with an expensive bulb, and which is best for the living room. There are better quality LEDs, but these are more expensive.

Like all things, it’s a balance. If you think the benefits of LEDs outweigh the negatives, then you should definitely get them. The question is whether you can do that for yourself—or do you need an expert to do it for you?

Do You Need Electricians to Install Lighting?

LED lighting can be easy to buy and install. However, there are still good reasons to consider hiring a professional. The first is that lighting can’t just be installed anywhere. Well, it can… But the point is that it looks better in some places than others! Using our experience, we can help you identify the best places in a room to put lighting to use it to maximum effect.

Aside from that, you might need to update your electrical panel. Electrical panels can only handle so much demand. If you’re turning a bedroom into a home cinema, and installing lots of extra lighting in your house, you might need an upgrade. That especially applies if you live in an old house and haven’t yet updated your electrics. Whatever the case, this is something that’s best left to an expert.

Finally, messing around with your electrics can be dangerous and time consuming. Projects often become more complex and more dangerous as they go on. It’s the same with any project where you update a house. Without proper safety training, you could be putting yourself at risk. It’s just not worth it, so hire an expert!

TV Installation Colorado Springs

Installing a TV isn’t usually something you need help for. But today’s TV’s mount on the wall, or come with a big extended stereo system that’s difficult to put together. So, why do you need TV installation Colorado Springs, and how could we help? Let’s find out.

Why Do You Need TV Installation Colorado Springs?

Back in the day, installing a TV used to be a case of sitting it on a stand in the corner of the room. But today there are a number of reasons why you might want to consider getting your TV, and the system that supports it, professionally installed. Here’s why.

Home Cinema and TV Installation Colorado Springs

Today’s TVs do have speakers included, as they always have. But some people feel that these speakers just aren’t good enough. So to improve their viewing experience, you might want to add:

  • Sound bars
  • Tower speakers
  • Wall mounted speakers
  • Small speakers that form part of a surround sound system

Some parts of these systems are easy to install. Tower speakers and sound bars, for example, simply sit next to your TV. All you have to do is plug them in.

But if you opt for wall mounted speakers and surround sound, that’s when things get more complicated. Wall mounted speakers can be tricky to install. They need a power source and a way of connecting to your TV.

Surround sound systems may require expert installation too. They aren’t necessarily complicated. But to achieve high quality surround sound, you need to know exactly where to put the speakers: how high up on the wall, and the exact location in the room for perfect sound. Hiring an expert home cinema installation team is the best way to go.

Wall Mounted TV

Home cinemas often have a wall mounted TV. But you can install almost any modern TV on the wall, even if you don’t want to ‘go the whole hog’ and get a big cinema system installed.

You can buy the bracket and other equipment necessary to install a wall mounted TV. But there are a few reasons why this might not be a good idea.

  1. These TVs are expensive. A simple DIY mistake with the bracket you’re installing could cost you thousands of dollars!
  2. The bracket itself could fail. You could install it perfectly, but if the bracket is badly made, then it could collapse anyway.
  3. If you don’t run the wiring through the walls, it will hang behind the TV and along the wall. That ugly look can ruin what you’re trying to achieve with your room.

In having an electrician install your TV for you, you could avoid these problems. We offer guarantees on our work, so you can enjoy peace of mind. Not only that, but we can run wiring through the wall so that it’s not an eyesore.

Complicated Wired or Wireless Systems

If you are planning on having a system with lots of speakers, the wiring for them could prove to be a real nuisance. It could be:

  • Difficult to figure out. Have you ever had trouble figuring out the wiring for devices or PCs? Installing a complicated wired system is similar, because you have to think both about power and running the system to the TV.
  • A tripping hazard. If you plan on having a surround sound system, the wiring running across the room could actually be a tripping hazard if you don’t tidy it away somehow.
  • Just plain ugly. Wiring doesn’t look good at the best of times. But if it’s hanging down the wall, crossing the floor at old angles, and stretching to reach outlets, then it can ruin the look of your room. You could opt for a wireless system, but that just means it doesn’t need to plug into the TV. It still needs wiring for power.
  • Sometimes, impossible to install. If you’re not experienced installing TVs and stereo systems, you might not realize that your designs won’t fit with reality. Every aspect of the system needs a power source. You might have to wire something in from across the room: and this might not be possible.

Relying on an expert is the way to go. A qualified electrician can help you both design your layout, and install everything you need for it.

To keep things simple, you could even opt for a wireless system. Wireless systems don’t require that you connect the speaker system to the TV itself. Instead, they connect through Bluetooth. That means you can place them anywhere you like in the room.

This makes things a lot easier. With wireless speakers, all you need to do is give them a power source. This still requires some rewiring, but not as much. You save in labor costs by paying more for the system.

Home Audio Colorado Springs

No home cinema is complete without a good sound system. But it can be difficult to know where to start, especially if you’re not good with tech. So, what should you do if you want home audio Colorado Springs? Let’s find out!

Do I Need Home Audio Colorado Springs?

Home audio is something you don’t really need, but can make your life at home that much more comfortable and enjoyable. With high quality home audio, you can:

  • Watch high definition TV and movies, but now with high definition sound
  • Become immersed in video games like never before
  • Watch home videos, with sound quality good enough to take you back in time

No—you don’t need any of those things. But wouldn’t they be fun?

And if you’re planning on having a home cinema, there’s little point creating one if you don’t focus on audio too. Having a top of the line projector, or a gigantic screen, is great fun. But the cinema experience will feel unfinished if you don’t pair your visuals with top notch audio.

What Makes Great Home Audio Colorado Springs?

There are a number of different parts to every great home audio system. These are the sound bar, the towers, and the bookshelf speakers you use to create surround sound. And besides that, you have to think about smart speakers too. Or you could pick an all-in-one system—whatever works for you.

What Is a Sound Bar?

A sound bar (or soundbar) is by far the easiest way to improve your home cinema experience. It’s a long, narrow speaker that sits flat on your TV table, ideally in front of your TV. They’re marketed as an effective but cheap way of upping your game when it comes to home entertainment.

Why do you need one? Well, TVs have become thinner and thinner over the last decade. That desire for thinner TVs with wider screens has meant that there’s less and less room inside the body of the TV for speakers. A sound bar is supposed to remedy that.

You can pick one up for $100 or so, or more if you want higher quality. You can buy them with either built-in or external subwoofers. The idea is to create a stereo effect with rich sound. If you’re on a budget when it comes to your home cinema, you can get away with just getting a soundbar.

They don’t need installation, either. They just sit in front of your TV and plug right in—or even connect through Bluetooth.

Home Cinema Tower Speakers

If you want your home cinema to be practically indistinguishable from the real thing, you’ll need tower speakers. They come in pairs, and sit on each side of the TV. Tower speakers have always been the heavy hitters, the big guns of home audio.

They typically have at least two big speakers and one small speaker arranged in a row from top to bottom. The smaller speakers are for the higher pitches, and the bigger speakers are to round out the sound at every level.

Towers don’t always have a subwoofer built in, but they can. Again, this means that these speakers can form the backbone of your home audio or be part of a set. If they’re part of a set, then you’ll have a separate subwoofer that sits elsewhere.

Again, these speakers don’t need to be installed. They either plug in physically, or work via Bluetooth.

Do I Need Surround Sound?

The idea of tower speakers and sound bars is that they provide stereo sound. Stereo sound, as you know, is where the sound is split into two—one feed on the left, and one on the right. This split means that the sound set sounds more realistic, as if the ‘explosion’ really was coming from your left.

If you want to achieve true surround sound, like in the cinema, then you’ll need other speakers too. These smaller speakers sit wherever you want them to in the room. To achieve surround sound you need them to the side of the couch, or behind it. This furthers the scope of the stereo effect. Some speakers can even sit in the ceiling (we can install these for you!)

You can arrange these speakers in combination with either the towers, or the sound bar. Both sound great.

It’s best if these speakers are Bluetooth because that makes them so much easier to install. If you pick a budget option that needs wires, then you’re limited in where you can put them. Plus, you have ugly wires around the place. It’s possible to wire them up inside the walls, although this obviously incurs costs.

Can I Get an All-In-One Speaker System?

If you don’t feel like spending your money on lots of different speakers, you could get an all-in-one system. These are typically cheaper, and sound similar to a sound bar. They’re bigger, though, and sit inside the TV stand (or wherever you want to put them).

While they aren’t always as high quality, they are cheap, and are very easy to install and use.

What Else Might You Need for Home Audio, Colorado Springs?

You’re going to need more than just your sound system. You’ll need visuals too. Whether you achieve that through a projector or a big screen is up to you.

Much more importantly, though, you’re probably going to need to work with your electrics. You have to consider:

  • Whether the room has enough outlets for you to achieve the effects you want
  • Whether your room is lit properly (lighting can make all the difference)
  • Whether your electrical panel can handle all the extra load

To fix these problems for you, you’ll need an electrician. That’s where we come in! We can help you with all these additional problems—the things you just don’t consider when you get the ‘home cinema’ bug.

Hot Tub Electrician Colorado Springs

Getting a hot tub isn’t as easy as picking which one you like the look of, and sitting it on your back porch. You have to get installed! If you need a hot tub electrician Colorado Springs, read on to find out how we can help.

Do You Need a Hot Tub Electrician Colorado Springs?

This is a great question.

Nobody really needs a hot tub. They’re just a way of relaxing after a long day. Ultimately, there’s only one person who knows if you need one or not, and that’s you. If you can afford it without breaking the bank, and if it would make a genuine difference to your quality of life, then you should go ahead and get one.

Where Should You Install a Hot Tub?

First, we’ll work together with you to pick the perfect place for it. Obviously there’s the question of whether you want it inside or outside. There are advantages to each. Having it indoors gives you more privacy, of course, but outdoors is more fun in the summer. More than anything, you have to pick somewhere that you’ll actually have room for it, plus a few feet either side to walk around it.

You’ll also need to pick somewhere that’s well ventilated. If your hot tub is an outdoor one, you’ll have no trouble with that. But indoors, you need ventilation or your walls and windows will get moldy. As such you should pick somewhere that’s near a window you can open, and that preferably has venting and a ceiling fan to circulate the air.

Finally, you should think of the weather. There’s no point having a hot tub outdoors if the weather only lets you use it twice a year. Having yours indoors means you can use it to unwind after a long working day, whether it’s summer or winter. And if you want to use it late at night, you could set the mood with specialist lighting!

Can You Be a DIY Hot Tub Electrician Colorado Springs?

It’s important to note that you can install hot tubs yourself. You can do anything you want with your property, provided you have the proper planning permission. However, there are two main reasons to avoid going the DIY route when it comes to hot tubs:

  1. You need to install electrical wiring. If you do this wrong, you could hurt yourself, start a fire, or worse. It’s not as easy as hammering in a nail or two! Water and electrics don’t mix, after all.
  2. Big projects like these tend to take longer than you think, especially if you’ve never tried before. The last thing you want is for a project like this to overrun, and leave your yard a mess for weeks.
  3. If you don’t have a foundation ready for it, you’ll have to create one. Otherwise, the weight of the hot tub plus the water and people inside it could actually make it tip, tilt or push into the soil underneath it. This is more work that you can probably do without.
  4. Hot tubs are big and bulky, and can be difficult to fit. You might need some help putting it in place, especially if it has to be plumbed in too.

Even if you’ve got a lot of experience with DIY, you should avoid working with wiring. Things can go wrong through no fault of your own, and your dream would turn into a nightmare! That’s why businesses like ours advertise our experience working with electrics.

How Do You Install a Hot Tub?

Before we install anything, you need planning permission to install a hot tub in Colorado Springs. These are issued by Pikes Peak Regional Building Department, which covers unincorporated El Paso County; the cities of Colorado Springs, Fountain and Manitou Springs; the towns of Green Mountain Falls, Monument and Palmer Lake; and in Teller County, the City of Woodland Park.

If the location of your hot tub is out in the yard somewhere, you might need to prep the site first. This means laying down a concrete foundation for it. You might also want to build a deck for it to sit on, depending on the style you’re going for. Then, you have to put the hot tub in place.

If it needs to be plumbed in, then you’ll need to run piping from your existing system to your hot tub. Fortunately, most modern tubs are self-contained. To keep the water clean, you use filters, cleaning powders and the pH level to stop bacteria from multiplying or algae from forming.

Next, we’ll have to wire up your hot tub so that there’s power for it. Otherwise, it’s a tiny pool that will never heat up! Most modern hot tubs are actually self-contained, which means they don’t have to be plumbed in. But hot tubs will always need power. We’ll wire it up to the mains for you, and install a new electrical panel if you need one.

Colorado Springs Kitchen Lighting

Thinking of sprucing up your kitchen? Or are you going for a complete remodel? Either way, lighting should be at the heart of it. Read on to find out everything you’ll ever need to know about Colorado Springs kitchen lighting!

Colorado Springs Kitchen Lighting

Kitchen lighting is surprisingly important! When it comes to interior design, actually designing a beautiful space is one thing—but if you don’t have the right lighting to make the most of it, you might as well not have bothered. Lighting can transform your kitchen and make it look cleaner, bigger, more cozy… Anything you like.

Why Get New Kitchen Lighting?

There are a few reasons why you might need or want to get new kitchen lighting. As we said above, the right lighting can transform your home. If you remodeled your kitchen, but didn’t install new lighting to go with it, then you really should—so that you can fully make use of your new space.

Aside from that, though, there are a couple of reasons why you might want new kitchen lighting. The first is that you want to take advantage of different lighting options, e.g. LED. Depending on the mood you want to set, LED or dimmer switches and bulbs can help you re-imagine your kitchen in brand new ways.

You might also want more lighting. Say for example that your kitchen has one big overhead light; not only does that do little to give your kitchen character, but it can also make it hard for you to see what you’re doing. Under-the-cabinet lighting will illuminate your kitchen counters, making it easier to stay safe when you’re chopping vegetables, and making your kitchen just look better.

What Kinds of Kitchen Lighting Can You Get?

Lighting your kitchen is more complicated than you think—because there are lots of different ways to do it. Let’s take a look at a big list of all the different kinds of lighting you could use!

  1. Recessed lighting. These are lights that sit in the ceiling, rather than hanging down from it. These are really common in kitchens because they provide crisp, clear lighting for every corner of the space.
  2. Track lighting. These lights are basically the same as recessed lighting lights, except they’re on a track running along the ceiling rather than recessed. Track lighting is a great idea, because it allows you to position your lights however you like.
  3. Under-the-cabinet lighting. If you can’t guess, this is lighting that runs along the underside of your kitchen cabinets. They’re great for illuminating whatever you’re trying to do, and create a cozy contrast if you have all the other lights off.
  4. Wall lights. Wall mounted lighting is great for directional lighting: above, above and below, or to the sides. Again, this helps to set the mood in the kitchen.
  5. Overhead lighting integrated with a ceiling fan. To help circulate air around the home, you could have a ceiling fan installed. The light fits in the middle.
  6. LED vs Dimmable vs Regular lighting. LED lighting is typically more ‘blue’ or harsh than regular incandescent lightbulbs. Dimmable bulbs obviously can be made dimmer or brighter as the mood requires. You can also get clappers that turn lights on and off by virtue of you clapping, or energy saving bulbs. The choice is yours!

Good kitchen lighting is typically a mixture of two or three of the above. Recessed lights can provide enough light to cover every inch of your kitchen when it’s in use, but for when you want to eat and you want to set the mood, you can switch them off and rely on under-the-cabinet lighting instead, for example. Or you could stick to one big light combined with a ceiling fan, and have a number of wall lights to provide accents. It’s up to you.

How can you decide? By working with a professional! It’s fun to make your own plans, but it’s even more fun to see those plans come to life. Talk to a pro about any ideas you’ve had, and they can tell you how to make those ideas a reality. But who should you call?

Who to Call for Colorado Springs Kitchen Lighting

If you’re interested in new kitchen lighting, give Wire Works a call! We’re a locally owned and operated company that’s been here in Colorado Springs for years. We pride ourselves on our professionalism: however you need us to help, we’ll treat your house as well as we would our own, and leave it exactly as tidy as we found it!

It’s also important to call a real, registered electrician because installing new lighting doesn’t just mean installing new lighting. There’s cabling involved, too, and playing with cabling if you don’t know what you’re doing is dangerous. And depending on how much lighting you want to install—and whether you want more outlets for more appliances in your kitchen—you might also need to upgrade your electrical panel at the same time. This is all in a day’s work for a genuine electrician, but is beyond the knowledge of many DIYers.

How Can We Help with Colorado Springs Kitchen Lighting?

It all starts with you. Give us a call, and you’ll get through to one of our friendly staff. They’ll set up a time for one of our team to come to you, so that you can tell them what it is you’re after. After we figure out how to put your plans into practice, we can give you an estimate—so you’ll never be left out of pocket.

Then, we can set up a time and date to commence work. We schedule our work around you, to minimize disruption to your daily life. Let us know how best to do that, and we’ll do everything we can to oblige. Then? You leave the rest to us.

So, what are you waiting for? If you still want Colorado Springs kitchen lighting, give us a call today on (719) 492-6955. Alternatively, contact us through our online form and we’ll call you back as soon as possible.

Can You Install Ceiling Fans Yourself?

Yes, you can! If you already have a ceiling outlet, then installing a ceiling fan isn’t too complicated. You usually need the ceiling fan itself, some wire strippers and wire connectors, electrical tape, a drill, a circuit tester, a screwdriver, some pliers and safety goggles. And, of course, you’ll need a ladder to actually get up there and install it!

There are a few things that mean installing a ceiling fan is more suitable for an intermediate or expert than a novice. First of all, you’re dealing with electricity. The electrics in older houses, especially, can be full of surprises. So, you might think you’ve turned off the supply… But you really haven’t! Or old cables might have frayed and become exposed. And you might have to upgrade your electrical panel, too.

Not only that, but you’re working at height, which is more dangerous than your average DIY. And what you’re doing is permanent and difficult to fix if anything goes wrong. That’s why most people opt for contractors for jobs like these, even if they usually go the DIY route.

How Do You Install Ceiling Fans?

The first thing you have to do is turn off the electrical supply to the existing light at the breaker box/fuse box. If necessary, remove any facing and expose the wiring, using a circuit tester to check if any of them are still live. Once you’re sure that the electricity is off, remove the fixture. If the existing electrical box is plastic, replace it with a metal box that’s suitable for ceiling fans.

Then you have to follow the ceiling fan’s manufacturer instructions (since all ceiling fans are different). Normally, this involves fixing the bracket either as-is or using an extension, before fixing the ceiling fan in place and wiring it up. This all assumes that there’s already an electrical connection, which there won’t be if you don’t have a ceiling light/other electrics in place.

The point of hiring a contractor is so that they take care of everything for you. If you aren’t comfortable working with electrics—and don’t worry, because plenty of people aren’t—then a contractor can do it all for you. Not only that, but you can have peace of mind that it was installed correctly. So who can you call…?

Ceiling Speakers Colorado Springs

If you’re creating a home cinema, or you’d just like to improve on your current living room, then you need ceiling speakers Colorado Springs! They’re a permanent fixture that will provide top-notch sound quality for years.

Needless to say, that’s why it’s so important that you pick the right speakers, and install them correctly. That’s where we come in, and that’s what this post is all about. So let’s find out more about them!

What Are Ceiling Speakers Colorado Springs?

For starters, you can buy ceiling speakers either for your wall or for your ceiling. The way they work is the exact same. They’re like any other kind of speaker, but without a housing. Instead, you cut away either a part of the wall or the ceiling and have them there.

Why buy ceiling speakers? Let’s take a look.

  • They free up room in your home. Having a surround sound system can take up quite a bit of room, in between the sound bars, big speakers, small rear speakers and more.
  • And because there are plenty of high quality speakers available, you aren’t compromising on the actual sound system either. Ceiling speakers can be exceptionally high quality. Or, if you’re on a budget, you can find cheap ones too.
  • Not only that, but you avoid the need for tangles of wires all around the room. The more speakers you need, the more wires you have. This means having to buy cable tidies, or worse yet, run them through the wall. If you’re going to run them through the wall, just have ceiling speakers instead!

So, if you’re completely sold on ceiling speakers Colorado Springs, how many do you need?

How Many Ceiling Speakers Do I Need?

How long is a piece of string? You can have as many as you want, although after a certain point you do experience diminishing returns! These speakers usually come in pairs. If your TV has decent speakers or a sound bar, that means you don’t need so many. One on each side in the middle of the room, and two behind you would give high quality surround sound. But if you wanted, you could have two ceiling speakers, and ‘regular’ speakers in front and behind you. Ultimately, it’s all up to you and your budget.

Ceiling Speakers and Surround Sound

Ceiling speakers are the best way of achieving surround sound, without the need for lots of visible wires, lots of tiny speakers, and lots of effort. And because they’re installed directly, you can set them up for optimal sound, which will stay optimal for however long you use it. The principle of surround sound is in the name: it’s about having noise coming at you from the side, from behind, from the front, and even from above! The point is to make you feel like you’re really experiencing the movie. It’s the perfect complement to a 3D movie, because the sound is in 3D too.

Ceiling speakers help you achieve that. With ceiling speakers above and on each side of where you’re sitting, you’re creating that 3D sound (coupled with the speakers in front of you).

Do I Need Anything Else?

You most definitely do. If you’re installing a top quality sound system, you’re going to need top quality cable. If you wanted to scrimp and save on wiring, you’re welcome to, but you’re shooting yourself in the foot. Essentially, the longer the wire is, the more the sound degrades. This isn’t likely to affect you—it’s more to do with bigger rooms, like actual cinemas! But you’ll still need either two-core or four-core speaker cables.

Besides that, you also need ceiling speaker hoods. They’re big fabric hoods designed to fit around the speaker. They look almost like a cat bed! The point is that they stop noise from echoing around in the wall or ceiling cavity. This improves the sound quality of your ceiling speaker system. But even more importantly, it stops noise from spreading around the house. Plus, if you have an upstairs neighbor, it stops them from being able to hear whatever it is you’re listening to.

Can You Install Ceiling Speakers Yourself?

If you’re thinking of installing ceiling speakers yourself, you’ll need to be able to gain access either behind the wall or above the ceiling. You’ll then need to run the wire through to the TV or home cinema setup—if you do want ceiling speakers that use wires, that is. You can get Bluetooth speakers, although these are a little more expensive.

However, no matter what kind of ceiling speaker you buy, you’re going to need to power it. So your choices, really, are between a lot of wires and even more wires! All of this is to say that it’s perfectly possible for you to install them yourself, but it’s going to be a lot of hassle. If you’d prefer, we can do it all for you.

What Can Home Lighting Do For You?

You can have the nicest home in the world, but if it’s not lit well, it doesn’t count for a thing. Home lighting is what makes a good design great, and a great design exceptional. Let’s take a look at how you can use home lighting to make your home look better!

Install Accent Lights

First things first, you can install accent lights that highlight certain things, and leave others in the (relative) dark. Let’s take a kitchen as an example. You can use accent lighting to focus down on the worktop, so that you can more easily see what you’re doing. Alternatively, you could have the accent lighting pointing up and away from the worktop, so that light doesn’t bounce off your marble worktop and blind you as you’re trying to walk around! What we’re trying to say is that the choice is yours, because accent lighting is both versatile and useful.

Accent lighting is also a great choice for outside, either the front or back yard. You can use it in the back yard to create an ambience: to highlight certain parts of your garden, for example, or to dimly light a small and cozy living space outside. In the front yard, you can cast accent lighting up from the ground against the walls of your house, to make it look mighty and impressive—that’s curb appeal for you!

Lighting For a Home Cinema

If you’re thinking of getting a home cinema, the TV itself is only half of the story! You also have to think of the lighting you need to make your home cinema, well, a home cinema.

Good lighting in a home cinema doesn’t blind you: it’s muted and dim, like a real cinema. There are a few options you can go for, including down-lights and strip lighting that aren’t intrusive, but add to the experience. We make home cinemas from scratch, including lighting, sound, and setup.

So, we’re not just home lighting Colorado Springs CO experts. We work on home cinemas too!

Replace Old Fluorescent Lighting

One major bugbear that people call out home lighting Colorado Springs CO experts for is fluorescent lighting.

Let’s face it: nobody likes it. Either at home or at work, it’s too bright, and can give you a headache. So why not get rid of your headache, and replace it with some nice modern lighting solutions instead? You can pick between incandescent or LED for kitchens, for example, both of which are much easier on the eye than fluorescent. They’re also both easier to manage, because if a bulb blows, you just replace it. If only fluorescent lighting were that easy to replace!

Replace Your Electrical Panel Too!

If you’re planning on a complete redesign of your lighting, this can necessitate more wiring, and the need for more power. If your house is of a certain age, then the odds are that it has an electrical panel that’s not up to standard.

Back in the day, people didn’t need that much power. They would have had a fridge, maybe a radio and some lights—and that was it. But today, we have far more white goods, big-screen TVs, more lighting, more outlets… More everything! That means you need more power.

In the early part of the last century, for example, households only needed 30 amp fuse panels, which were the norm. Today, a bigger house that needs to meet the needs of a family might need a 200 amp one instead, purely because of the number of gadgets and equipment we use today. So while you’re getting your lighting upgraded, it might be best to upgrade your electrical panel too.

Home Lighting Colorado Springs CO Experts!

At Wire Works, our electricians have a combined 20+ years in the industry to back us up. We can take your ideas and bring them to life, whether you’re thinking of making your home look better inside and out, or you have to replace an ancient electrical panel in your Victorian-era home.

Hiring Wire Works to work on your lighting job would be the best decision you could make. Why? Here’s why.
